VI. Director’s Report

Director Heather McNeil asked the students present how they felt about the survey and how it was presented.  The Main Street Stroll is this Friday. YFS will be at the old FoodWorks store front. They will be hosting a Youth Dance Party for the older kids on one side; and other activities for the younger kids on the other. The Youth Action group will be assisting.  In conjunction with the Holiday Giving program a few businesses are supporting the program by asking their customers for donations.  Tuesday night POP Weight Loss iscooking demos and asking for donations for YFS Social Services.  Stay & Play had a Diaper Drive on Black Friday.  The Sticker Shock went very well with 20 high school students going to 11 liquor stores.  One thing they did this year was handed out a pre-survey with the store owners and will be going back out this week to find out if there was any kind of feedback on the stickers.  YFS is applying for a local prevention council grant from MCSAAC, which stands for Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council, for $2,400 to go for YAC (Youth Action Council).  There will be no Food Bank for two weeks, but Sue Consoli has scheduled the Food Truck for December 30th at Grace Church.  “Give a Cop the Bird” collected about 500 turkeys of which about 165 were given out for Thanksgiving and the rest will be available for Christmas.  Thank you Old Saybrook Police Department.  There is an open clinical position due to a resignation, and positions will be posted early January .  In January there are plans for the Youth Action Group to do a Tip a Teen Night at a couple of restaurants in town, to raise money for Positive Youth Development Programming.
